From Heaven to Earth
Plato's Philosophy and the World We Live In
by David Horan
This is a presentation for all those that would love to learn more about the life and work of Plato, one of the most significant and influential philosophers of all time.
In today's world we separate Philosophy from Politics and the troubles of our time. For Plato and his teacher Socrates, however, Philosophy was directly involved with all aspects of life.
This lecture will describe how Plato and Socrates met and interacted with the playwrights, politicians, tyrants and indeed thugs of their time, and how these people received and engaged with the philosophy espoused. Plato and Scorates regarded this as the most important work of all—that Philosophy be lived, rather than merely thought about.
For us today, this challenge need to be taken up again—to make Philosophy directly relevant to our own lives and to the world in which we live. David Horan has had a long and abiding love of Plato's works, and is an inspirational speaker on this subject. Sharing his deep love and knowledge of Plato, David will demonstrate how to bring the words of Plato to life in our own times.
An opportunity not to be missed!
